Morning Meditation: Start Your Day Off Right
If you need to be out the door by 8:10 am and it takes you exactly 37 minutes to get ready, chances are you will not set that alarm any earlier than 7:33.
While it is tempting to get every second of sleep you can, this sort of routine will not put you in the right mindset to start the day.
How our morning starts often predicts how most of the day will proceed.
Say what you want about law of attraction, but in my experience, the more anxious, angry, stressed or upset I get, the more of this garbage I seem to attract into my experience.
Most of us wake up and our anxiety and mind racing starts right out of the gate.
This sets the tone for the whole day.
Starting your day with relaxation and calm will do wonders for you and the benefits will last well after you've walked out the door.
You do not need to wake up hours earlier, even 10 minutes to start can take you a long way.
You have probably heard a lot about the benefits of meditation and might have even tried it a few times.
Chances are you felt like jumping out of your skin after only a few minutes and quickly ended the session.
While it can be challenging to sit with ourselves and all of our racing thoughts, I cannot think of any practice that offers more benefits than this one.
I meditate right when I wake up, before I do anything else-perhaps a trip to the bathroom, but that is about it.
Meditating first thing in the morning has done wonders for me and I cannot imagine ever ceasing this practice.
Meditation helps create a space between you and your thoughts; it helps you think before you react; it helps you observe thoughts and feelings without judgment or attachment; it helps you sit with uncomfortable feelings and helps you realize that like everything else in life, they will not last forever.
Our minds can be our greatest liberator or oppressor and the patterns that most of our minds follow unfortunately put us in the latter category.
This relaxed state of mind can make the drive to work seem a little less like torture.
It will prevent a stream of anxiety and agitation from arising when you walk into your office and instantly get hit with an annoying co-worker, mean boss, customer service crisis or urgent phone message or email.
You can proceed calmly without reacting to every outside stimulus.
