Metronidazole Gel Defined

• This topical medication is most often used in the treatment of rosacea and the skin lesions it causes. Brand names include MetroCream, MetroGel, MetroLotion, Noritate, MetroGel-Vaginal (not the same as MetroGel), Rozex and Vandazole. Recommended application consists of a thin film spread upon the infected area (and gently rubbed in thoroughly) after washing and patting dry the skin to be treated. Caution is urged against using this product for any purpose other than prescribed or by anyone who is on blood thinners, has blood anemia or is pregnant or nursing.
  
  

Side Effects

• Cold symptoms (cough, sore throat and a stuffy nose) are possible side effects of using metronidazole gel. Headache, nausea, tearing of the eyes and experiencing an unusual taste in the mouth (metallic) are also possible side effects. Other possible effects include dry, scaly and itchy skin (including in the vaginal area), as well as a vaginal discharge. In addition, an individual might experience a tingling sensation, or numbness, in their hands or feet. Severe Side Effects

• While any side effect is undesirable, if the following ones are experienced, it should prompt metronidazole gel users to seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing; swelling of the throat, tongue, lips, or face; severe burning or stinging sensation during application; and hives.
