Malaga Airport
The airport of Málaga is located at only 8 kilometres southwest from Málaga Capital and close to the main high ways at the Costa del sol.
Málaga Airport dates from 1919 and was inaugurated by Didier Daurat who started with regular flights between Malaga Barcelona, Toulouse and Tangier Casablanca.
At the beginning of the civil war in 1937, Malaga Airport was transformed into a military base, where air force academies were built.
In july 1946 Malaga Airport started again with public flights.
Big renovations have taken place in 1960, and in 1965 the airport has received its official name "Aeropuerto de Málaga".
These days over 12 million passengers come to Malaga Airport fly from and to destinations all over Europe and even a few flights to America and Africa.
Ryanair is one of the top-airlines at the Airport of Málaga, serving about 21% of all flights, second is Easyjet with 15% of all flights.
Ryanair offers low budget flights, mostly to the UK and back.
Malaga Airport´s new terminal The Airport is recently extended in 2010 with a new Terminal, T3.
The new terminal is connected with the old terminal 2 (T2).
The purpose of this new terminal is to serve the increasing number of tourists around Málaga and Costa del Sol.
Before all EU flights depart from T2, but has now changed to T3 and NON-EU flights now have to check in at T2.
The new terminal T3 consist of a spacious new check in area, commercial area with tour operators, bars, shops, cafés and restaurants.
Together with the opening of the new terminal, the underground railway station has been inaugurated.
Built in the same style and feel as T3 with direct connection to the arrivals and departure hall.
Malaga Airport Arrivals Most flights will arrive at the new terminal T3, you will be directed to passport control and baggage reclaim (also in case you only bring hand luggage).
Nothing will go wrong, you will just have to follow the right signs "salida" which will direct you to the Terminal forecourt where you will find the bus stops, train stations, taxi lane.
If you have booked transfers, your chauffeur will be waiting for you at Arrivals.
Airport transfers There are several options, you could take a public radio taxi upon arrival, go by bus, shuttle, rent a car, go by train, or the most comfortable way: book airport transfers in advance.
