The Family That Travels Together, Stays Together: The Fun in Traveling With Family
I've been part of a family since, well, forever. It's something that we're born into. We don't have much choice in choosing family members, although I sometimes wished I had. But the reality of life is that we'll be in that family for as long as we live, and that it will be up to us to do our best to live in peace and in fun.
One of the best discoveries I've had with my family is that we act differently when we're all together in a different place. Last year, we all trooped to Bohol - grandparents, my parents and all of my siblings. We forgot how we didn't like my brother's late night computer game habits; I forgot how strict my mom was about keeping everything clean.
Still hesitant? These might convince you:
€ Seeing new sights together. Being in the house is seldom exciting. As a result, being with family becomes more boring than fun. Sometimes, all it takes for a family to learn to appreciate each other more is to go out of the house and to experience new things together. It does wonders to your disposition and emotions, and is a great way to have and extend good vibes to each other.
€ Sharing stories to each other. When my brother told me about his recent trip to Caramoan, I thought of only one thing: we should've gone together with the whole family. Your trips with your family will serve as conversation pieces through the years, and the memories will serve as reminders of the good times.
€ Having conversations during long trips. Aside from dinners during weekends, when do you get to talk with the whole family? There are a lot of distractions at home which you can easily eliminate by putting everybody in a vehicle for a long drive to Batangas or even to Ilocos. No one can go to their room; they'd have to €endure€ each other and hopefully, the trip will end with everybody closer to each other.
€ Thinking of nothing but the experience. Taking a trip is a great way to refocus on more important things, such as having each other and enjoying life together. Bringing everybody to a flight to the Cebu airport and taking a tour around the province is a whole lot different from eating in a restaurant somewhere in your town. You will definitely spend more going to Cebu, but any family trip should be worth it.
