The Ancient Mariner
This artificial reef once served as a Coast Guard Cutter. It was built in the 1930's and served as a floating restaurant before finding itself in disrepair. Rather than paying to fix it up, the owners decided to donate it. It was sunk, and now serves as a restaurant, of sorts, to the wildlife that finds it to be the perfect home.
Barracuda Reef
It's rare to actually spot Barracudas on the reef, but they're present from time to time. Amateur divers usually have a guide with them to help advise in situations of danger. There is a magnificent fifteen foot ledge that rises from the bottom. Buoys mark the spot, so you won't miss it.
Tenneco Towers
This is the largest artificial reef in Southeast Florida. It was created in 1985 from sunken oil platforms formerly owned by Tenneco Oil. It is covered by soft coral and is absolutely teeming with life. It's not quite the perfect site for beginners, but heading out there with a guide will make it easier than you would imagine. If you want an intense, €high def€ experience, this is the best reef in the area.
Walk-in Diving is Perfect for Beginners
Maybe you don't want to spend all that money on equipment, or maybe you just don't feel comfortable going down so deep, yet. Walk-in diving is designed for beginners, with designated sites just 100 feet from the sure. There are plenty of opportunities for trainers to provide instruction to newbies, and it's easy to find wildlife. If you want to get up close and personal with a sea turtle this is a great way to do it.
