Fitness-Focused Hotels

You know those people who spring out of bed in the morning raring to get their work out on? Who practically whistle a jaunty tune as they skip along in their Nikes on their way to a killer session of CrossFit at the gym? Yeah, well I am afraid that is not me.

But working out is part of  keeping up a healthy lifestyle, of course. Which is why I appreciate it all the more when my hotel makes it as easy and as inviting as possible to work in a few minutes of exercise into my vacation or business trip.

Many hotels make use of complimentary bicycles to encourage guests to get out exploring their surrounds, breathing some fresh air and – as an added benefit – burning calories before hitting the next morning’s breakfast buffet. And if you’re the type of person who really appreciates the chance to tour around wherever you are on two wheels, there are a few hotels to put on your radar.

Biking around the busy city of Bangkok might seem counter-intuitive, but it’s easier than you think – and definitely easy to work up a sweat in this tropical town – with free bike rentals from theSofitel So Bangkok. And if you’re planning to stay at one of the world’s 60 Fairmont hotels, it’s worth enrolling (it’s free!) in the hotel’s loyalty program, Fairmont President’s Club, to get free access to stylin’ BMW cruise bikes during your stay. And many of the Element Hotels – including the ones in Times Square West and Las Vegas – offer free bikes for guests, too.

If you’re more the type of person who likes to go for a run for guaranteed calorie-burning, then jogger-friendly hotels everywhere from Florida and Las Vegas to major European cities give you the 411 on jogger-friendly areas and offer handy maps for accessing the best routes.

At the Ritz-Carlton Berlin, for example, you can fuel up with a fresh piece of fruit at a special kiosk for joggers in the hotel and grab a map of favorite local routes before lacing up for the scenic surrounds of the Tiergarten, nearby. And the Four Seasons Las Vegas helps motivate guests for a run in the desert heat with the promise of chilled towels on offer on your return.

Many luxury hotels around the world offer classes – from yoga and zumba to free-weight focused sessions - of a similar caliber to what you’d find at your town’s best gym.

And, of course, sometimes all you need is a really stellar hotel gym to get you motivated for a power work out.  Any luxury hotel worth its salt will have a decent gym, preferably open 24/7, for guests to sweat it out. And among the best in the country are the Hilton Anatole’s 80,000 square foot facility in downtown Dallas (well worth the fee charged to get in, the gym has a pool, squash courts and a spinning room),  the gym at The Venetian in Las Vegas which boasts a 40-foot climbing wall and the Radisson Blu Chicago’s top-notch facility, complete with a 25-meter indoor pool for swimming laps, a basketball court and even an indoor running track to shelter you from the icy winter winds.

So there – no excuses for missing your work out. Your hotel, most likely, has you covered.
