The Best Psoriasis Remedies

Some of the best psoriasis remedies can be done at home, although most are combined with psoriasis remedies from a doctor's prescription.
Most psoriasis sufferers use both home remedies and doctor's medications in order to feel better from psoriasis and to get some kind of relief from the appearance of the symptoms.
Let's focus on the home remedies first as these remedies can be used by anyone without a prescription:
  • In general, you shouldn't cover up the lesions of psoriasis as that can make the lesions worse but a homemade makeup made from Indian earth and an emollient can cover the lesions with a "makeup" that doesn't cause damage to the skin.
Use a makeup sponge to gently dab on some of the mixture.
It covers the lesions without problems.
  • Keeping a positive attitude helps psoriasis lesions.
Allowing yourself to get stressed out by things only flares up the psoriasis and you end up going through weeks or months of treatment trying to clear it.
Your positive attitude will make all the difference.
  • Use emollients such as creams, oils and ointments to lubricate every part of your skin.
Emollients will allow your skin to retain moisture and can help get rid of excess flakes so common in psoriasis.
Allow the emollients to gently come off during bathing and then reapply.
Even petroleum jelly or vegetable shortening make good emollients for psoriasis.
Put them on when your skin is still wet.
  • Get regular sunshine.
Sunshine will help resolve psoriasis in 95 percent of patients.
If you have money, go to the Dead Sea and soak in the sunshine and salty water for an effective treatment of your psoriasis.
Use sunscreen in areas where you don't have psoriasis.
  • Buy a small UVB sunlamp and treat small patches of psoriasis this way.
Other people can use the UVA light found in tanning beds but this is a weaker form of therapy and you should talk to your doctor about that.
  • OTC coal tar preparations are available without a prescription.
Put yourself in a tar oil bath or rub it on.
Do this at night and cover the areas with old clothing because it stinks and stains clothing.
Then wash it off at night.
Coal tar increases sensitivity to sun so be careful when out in the sun.
  • Try bathing in hot whirlpools.
This flattens the plaques and cuts down on scaling.
It can make you itch worse, however.
  • Try a cold water bath with a cup of apple cider vinegar in it for the itching.
Even ice applied to the skin can cut down on itching.
  • Over the counter cortisone creams are less potent than the prescription counterparts but they happen to be very safe for the face and the genitals, where cortisone cream is easily absorbed.
  • Cover the lesions in plastic wrap for a few days or weeks which can clear up psoriasis, especially when cortisone cream is used initially on the lesions.
Doctors use strong cortisone creams, vitamin A and vitamin D analogues, UVA light with psoralens and biologics, which are injectable medications that attack parts of the immune system and make the psoriasis get improved.
Use both doctor-recommended prescription medications along with home remedies to affect the best management of your psoriasis.
