You have chosen a life long hobby when you decide to build model trucks.
There are many different levels of skill that you can build.
These will offer many people the opportunity to build and customize as long as they choose.
While this is a very easy hobby to pick up it will get even more so when you are prepared before you begin.
This can save you a lot of time and is not too hard to do but you will first have to figure out exactly what all you will need to get started.
There is one tool that will prove itself irreplaceable when you start building model trucks.
A good hobby knife is great if you choose to do a lot of customizing on your model.
You will want one with several different shaped blades so that you can easily make the cuts you want without taking a chance on cutting away too much material.
A regular blade is very handy if you are just cutting the parts loose from the sprue.
If there are little children around the house then you will definitely want to think about using a lockable box so that the children can't reach the knife.
They are very sharp and can cut through skin just as well as plastic.
If you will be air brushing or hand painting your model you will have to decide which supplies you need.
If you will actually be hand painting your model then you will have to pick out the correct supplies.
This includes some brush cleaner and a selection of brushes.
You will also need to pick out a selection of the different color paints that you want to use.
Acrylics can stay good for quite a while so you might have to think about buying a few small jars of the colors that you will use less and larger jars for your basic ones.
Last but not least you will need to get are rubbing alcohol for correcting mistakes and some primer as well.
If you choose to airbrush then you will need to pick up an airbrush kit as well.
This should have all your basic airbrush supplies as well as a small compressor.
Other supplies that you might consider for helping your model building career include a toothbrush or two for cleaning parts before they get assembled, some toothpicks for applying adhesive and for painting some of the smaller details especially on the interior.
You should also pick up some wet and dry sandpaper in very fine grit so that you will be able to correct minor painting errors and glue spots that are misplaced.
You might also want to consider some safety equipment.
It is easy to get injured if you are not careful when you deal with sharp objects and as such you should wear the proper equipment.
One piece of this would be latex gloves.
They will protect your hands from nicks and cuts and will also keep paint from getting on your skin.
You should also make sure to pick up a pair of safety glasses so that you can protect your eyes from flying bits of plastic.
After you get all your supplies together then you can place them into a shoe box or an old model box.
This will allow you to have them ready once you prepare to build another model truck.
By taking just a little time you can save a great dial of it down the road just by being prepared.
