Everyone has facial hair, but hair usually grows on certain parts of the face that it's not supposed to. Men generally have hair by their eyes in the form of eyebrows and eyelashes, as well as their upper lip, chin and sides of the face. Women generally speaking only have hairs in the form of eyebrows and eyelashes. Men who want to look well groomed and clean cut will regularly remove the hair above their upper lip, chin and both sides of the face. For a number of women, stray hairs might appear in the same areas which can cause a lot of embarrassment. Other areas of the face with unwanted hair include between and around the eyebrows. Too much hair in that specific area makes the person appear unkempt and unattractive.

Traditional hair removal methods include shaving, using depilatory creams and waxing. Shaving the face is the most common method for men, it is not however preferred by women. Particular attention must be paid to the proper way of shaving to avoid ending up with nicks and cuts. When using a regular razor blade, it's important to use shaving cream or gel and make sure that the blade is sharp and never blunt. Remember to shave along the direction of hair growth with a razor, but against the grain when using an electric shaver. Depilatory creams are also commonly used to get rid of facial hair, especially in the upper lip area. All you have to do is apply the cream, wait a couple of minutes and the hair will fall apart for easy removal. It's painless and easy to apply, but contains harsh chemicals. Waxing is a method that causes pain, but it's a very quick process  and gets rid of the hair from the follicle so it will take much longer for the hair to appear again.

If you want to get rid of stray hairs on the face, an easy method to use is tweezing. This method is primarily used on the hair around the eyebrows. Women and men alike use tweezing to groom and shape their eyebrows. Tweezers are used to pluck out individual hairs from the follicle, it's simple to do, but can't be applied to a large area. Recently tweezing has been upgraded in the form of epilators. This handy electronic device has a number of rotating metal parts that pluck out multiple hairs simultaneously. Using an epilator is beneficial for larger areas of the face such as the upper lips or chin. It is not recommended for the eyebrows, because you can accidentally end up removing more hair than you planned on. Both techniques cause pain, however with continued use the hairs will be finer and less painful to get rid of.

Several people decide on using less traditional methods to remove facial hair. Threading is one of those techniques, it has been used by women in India for generations, but have just recently gained popularity in other parts of the world. This technique only requires thread, the hair is taken out from the follicle by wrapping the thread around each individual hair forming a loop and pulling it out. This technique is primarily used in salons and done by a professional. There are also at home tools available that can be effectively used by almost anyone. In order to achieve a more permanent solution, electrolysis can be used. This technique also focuses on individual hair strands, but it takes more time to completely get rid of the hair and prevent it from growing back. There are also a number of at home electrolysis products, but your best bet is to have a professional do the procedure for you.
