It's still a good plan to have a set packing list filled with essentials. Plan to take your guide books; maps or compass and GPS; first aid kit; rain poncho; several pair of socks and underwear; flip flops; plastic bags; long-sleeved and short sleeved shirts; shorts and long pants; sunscreen and mosquito repellent; camera; binoculars; notebook and pen or laptop; a book to read; travel documents like airplane tickets and passport; flashlight; toothbrush and small toiletries; and a bedroll or sleeping bag.
