Campground Review and Description:

Description:

This campground is very clean & the staff is always friendly. We have camped here several times in the past years. The bath houses are kept clean as well as the grounds. There is always plenty to do around the area: hiking, canoeing, fishing, movies on Friday evenings for kids, great roads for bicycles and lots of wild life.

We love this place.

Pros, Cons, Attractions and Additional Comments:

Pros: Everything is GREAT.

Cons: A little noise from I-74, but not bad. The only thing that would make it better is to have some full hook up sites.

Attractions: Canoeing, fishing, hiking, shopping, U of I activities.

Rating: 4

More on Illinois Campgrounds and Travel

From Illinois Department of Natural Resources: " Once a scarred wasteland ravaged by turn-of-the-century strip-mine operations, Kickapoo State State Recreation Area's 2,842 acres now provide an outdoor playground with something to appeal to every member of the family. Lushly forested uplands and bottomlands along the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River is habitat for enough birds, wildlife and wildflowers to please any nature lover, while nature trails and running trails provide pathways to inspiration and physical fitness.

Kickapoo has two major campgrounds for tent and trailer camping, with 184 sites. About half the sites have electrical hookups, 2 shower buildings are available to all campers and a sanitary dump station is available.

Campers occupying electrical sites are required to pay for the availability of electricity even if the service is not used. A limited number of walk-in sites are available for primitive campers."
